The Pharmacy Tech and Lab Procedures program at CCI is an innovative, multi-discipline approach allowing graduates to prepare for two professions in one program. As a successful graduate of this program you will have a choice to seek employment as a Pharmacy Tech or Phlebotomist/Lab Tech.
Pharmacy Tech
As a Pharmacy Technician, sometimes called Pharmacy Assistant, you’ll be an important member of the healthcare community, assisting a Pharmacist to dispense medication and other healthcare products to patients. Graduates of this program will be confidently able to retrieve written prescriptions or requests for refills, verify that the information on the prescription is complete and accurate, retrieve, count, pour, weigh, measure, sometimes mix the medication, prepare labels, select a proper container, price, and fill the prescription. The Pharmacy Technician segment of this program also includes “Introduction to IV Therapy.” These are the kind of compressive skills that will make you stand out above the other job hunting competition.
Phlebotomy
A Phlebotomist is a medical professional who is trained to obtain blood samples from patients by venipuncture (from a vein). Often in this professional you’ll be the one of the only individuals at a Medical Lab that a patient interacts with. As a Phlebotomist your calm, professional demeanour will put patients at ease. There will also be times when you’re processing and analysing samples and not interacting with the public. As a skilled professional in Phlebotomy and other lab procedures you’ll be highly marketable due to rising level of lab tests available and rising demand for lab work. Imagine knowing the work you do helps to diagnose and treat illness and contributes to the health and well-being of your community.
As a successful graduate of this program you will have a choice to seek employment as a Pharmacy Tech, Phlebotomist and/or Lab Tech. Positions in this field may be in:
